Tesco sustainability Anna Turrell has stepped down after three years in the role.
She first joined Tesco in 2020 as group head of environment and then moved onto group sustainability director in February of this year. Prior to her role at Tesco, Turrell was head of sustainability at Nestlé.
In the announcement on LinkedIn, Turrell highlighted her journey leading Tesco’s green milestones.
Under her leadership, the supermarket has expanded its net zero commitment by “catalysing the launch of the UK Soy Manifesto, launching its first green bonds, invested £5m in our Brazilian soy supply chain.”

“I joined Tesco because I am passionate about the food industry and driving positive change. Coming from Nestlé, I wanted to experience another vital part of the food value chain to better understand how we can drive systemic change and retail was the obvious choice,” she added.
Turrell has yet to say where she plans to go next and the supermarket is actively looking to recruit for her role.
During her time at the grocer, it also announced it had removed 2 billion pieces of plastic since launching its “remove, reduce, reuse and recycle” strategy.
As part of the strategy, Tesco also removed over 67 million tinned multipacks and 50 million pieces of plastic from branded beers and cider and 42 million plastic forks from prepared salads and rice bowls.
