Yoox, Net-a-Porter and Zalando are calling on more than 250 brand partners to set science-based climate targets in a bid to reduce emissions across the luxury and fashion industry.
The online ecommerce retailers are expanding their climate-focused sustainability platform education in a move which will see them inviting brand partners to join the Fashion Leap for Climate platform.
Started two years ago in partnership with German ecommerce player About You, the platform acts as a learning portal, bringing together information about measuring greenhouse gases, setting science-based climate targets and the process of getting them accredited.
Yoox Net-a-Porter CEO Geoffroy Lefebvre said: “Our commitment to climate action can only be realised through innovative partnership. This next step prioritises investing in brand partners at different stages in their climate journeys, supporting them to set their science-based targets.”
“By collaborating with About You and Zalando, together we can drive a more consistent approach in our efforts towards reducing the emissions of luxury and fashion.”

Zalando co-founder Robert Gentz also highlighted that “decarbonising supply chains” is an important part of creating change in the fashion industry.
He added: “We aim for 90% of our partners (by emissions) to set science-based targets by 2025, and the new learning platform is a key initiative towards realising this ambitious goal.”
Some 55 brands took part in the programme last year. Participants will be able to join an eight week course, comprised of eight hours across three different modules, which can be largely self-directed, although bespoke support is available.
About You co-founder and ceo Hannah Wiese said: “We see an industry-changing momentum in aligning greenhouse gas emission reduction pathways with science. More than 1,500 companies had their targets approved by the SBTi as of July 2022.”
“We have set science-based targets approved by the SBTi and are benefitting from our efforts now. 46.6% of our partners on greenhouse gas emissions had their targets approved by February 2022. We invite the remaining business partners to do the same.”
