Fashion retailer New Look has reduced its scope 3 emissions by 22%, as well as scope 1 and 2 by 18%.

As reported in its latest sustainability report, purchased goods and services (fibre) remain the highest source of emissions, representing a total of 62% of its carbon footprint.

New Look stated that a transition to lower impact materials will help the retailer reduce this figure.

Additionally, the fashion store has submitted its targets set to be approved by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) by the end of the year. New Look has submitted near-term target of reducing carbon emissions by 46% by 2031 across scope 1 & 2 and scope 3, aligned to the 1.5C pathway.

As well as short-term targets, it has submitted its long-term goal to become net zero by 2040 across all scopes.

New Look has also become to first major UK retailer to collaborate with TrusTrace to gain stronger insight into its supply chain compliance.

Fairley commented that the partnership is another “highlight of the year” for the retailer.

“TrusTrace’s technology will give us visibility through to our Tier 4 suppliers helping us to further mitigate any supply chain risks,” she added.
