Nike and Apple are just a handful of companies that have launched an academy to support other businesses transition to renewable energy and decarbonise their supply chains.

The academy will blend in-person and online training, along with comprehensive educational resources to boost supply chain companies’ capacity to invest in renewable energy through education and data accessibility.

Nike chief sustainability officer Noel Kinder said the platform called the Clean Energy Procurement Academy is “key to breaking down barriers to clean energy adoption”, while also helping companies call for “clean energy solutions in essential regions.”

“Collaborating cross-industry helps us tackle systemic challenges together,” he added.

The learning also foster collaboration among different industries tackling shared challenges in supply chain climate action and encourage suppliers to escalate their renewable energy goals and commitments.

The training academy, also supported by Amazon, will establish new renewable energy buying communities in pivotal manufacturing regions.

Amazon vice president of worldwide sustainability Kara Hurst said the academy will help to empower its suppliers and “other businesses to decarbonise their energy operations “alongside with the retailer.

“Accelerating the transition to clean energy is crucial to avoiding the most severe impacts of climate change and meeting our net zero carbon commitment,” she added.

“This is why Amazon has been the world’s largest corporate purchaser of renewable energy for the last three consecutive years.”

Alongside Nike, Apple and Amazon, other companies part of the training programme include Meta, PepsiCo, Rei and We Mean Business Coalition.
