Property business Bellway has won an award in recognition of sustainability efforts across its supply chain.
The award, which was given by the Supply Chain Sustainably School, recognises the company’s success in driving learning and training, and its commitment to reducing carbon and waste and combatting modern slavery.
Part-funded by the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB), the Supply Chain Sustainability School provides a free learning environment to help upskill those who work or who are seeking to work in the building industry.
As part of its Better with Bellway strategy, the property focused firm set an initial target for 75% of its key 100 group suppliers to reach Gold level membership with the school.
At present, around 58% of Bellway’s top 100 supply chain are at gold level but the firm has a target to increase this number to 85% of its top suppliers.

Bellway recently partnered with Octopus Energy in order to help create low-carbon ‘Zero Bills’ homes across the country, with the aim of delivering 50,000 of the homes by 2025.
In its ‘Better with Bellway’ strategy, the firm says it aims to cut scope 3 emissions by 55% by 2030, while it aims to cut scope 1 and 2 emissions by 46% by 2030.
“Sustainability is and has always been at the forefront of the Better with Bellway strategy and it is pleasing that the progress we have made in this area has been recognised with this award from the School,” said Bellway group head of procurement Adrian Hill.
“However, this is only the start of the journey. It is essential that all of our products and materials are sourced in a sustainable manner and we will continue to encourage our partners to sign up to the School scheme to help them improve their sustainability”.
Homes for the school partner relations and sector manager Sophie Coyle added that she felt Bellway were “deserving winners” of the Supply Chain engagement award.
“By setting an ambitious target for 75% of their key 100 group suppliers to achieve ‘gold’ level with the School, they have successfully encouraged their supply chain to actively use the training, develop their knowledge and skills, and ultimately become more sustainable businesses,” she continued.
“The School’s vision is of an industry where everyone has the skills and knowledge to deliver projects sustainably, and Bellway’s work on upskilling their suppliers demonstrates best practice in driving learning through the value chain.”
