E.ON has partnered with renewable heat and solar energy business Naked Energy for large-scale industry decarbonisation projects across Europe and the UK.

The deal will see the British company supporting E.ON’s commercial customers on their journey to becoming climate neutral, with its solar technology being used in projects run by E.ON’s business unit Energy Infrastructure Solutions (EIS).

The partnership was developed through groupwide innovation programme Free Electrons, where E.ON sources startup solutions for the transition to renewable energy.

Once the pilot is completed, EIS will offer Naked Energy’s high energy density solar technology to businesses which require a lot of energy but do not have the space available for traditional renewable solar solutions, such as breweries, food and beverage businesses, apartment blocks, hotels, leisure centres and district heat networks.

The technology features heat collectors which save up to four times the amount of carbon as standard solar panels and will be made available to all EIS customers who have a strong use case for renewable heat.

“It’s an honour to partner with E.ON and support their customers to become climate neutral,” said Naked Energy CEO and co-founder Christophe Williams.

“The need to decarbonise urban and industrial heating has never been more urgent, and the team at EIS share our vision for ambitious energy solutions that are future-proof, smart and efficient.”

E.ON Group Innovation managing director Mark Ritzmann also commented: “E.ON is committed to climate protection and the sustainable energy transition. Leveraging every available space, especially in limited environments, is crucial for generating renewable energy on a large scale.

“Highly innovative technology partners like Naked Energy play a pivotal role in expediting the transition to sustainable energy.”

EIS currently works with cities and industries across 16 EU countries, helping 1.5 million customers reduce their carbon emissions.
