Carbon labelling is set to appear on food products at the UK’s biggest sports events including including the Six Nations, the FA Cup Final and the Cheltenham Gold Cup.

A deal between event organisers Freemans Event Partners and food sustainability service Klimato will allow carbon labelling to be place on menus including Wembley Stadium, Lord’s Cricket Ground and Twickenham Stadium.

Freemans Event Partners chief operations officer Simon Hanna said “more and more consumers are interested in making sustainable food and drink choices”.

Hanna added that the partnership means that “every dish” on the menu has the “lowest carbon impact possible without losing any of the great taste and quality”.

Freemans Event Partners will see its 15 million guests across 400 events use the carbon labelling from Spring this year.

Late last year, scientist and brands called for carbon labelling on food products.

Durham University researchers called for “cigarette-style” labelling on meat products to reduce negative health and environmental impact.

Oatly also launched a UK campaign calling for food companies to publish the climate footprint on the back of their products.
