London-based food supply chain decarbonisation platform Mondra has appointed Tesco’s head of sustainability Emily Rout as its head of strategic accounts and industry collaboration.

The new role will involve bringing food industry partners together and driving collaboration across the BRC Mondra Coalition.

Set up in 2020, the software platform records, monitors and shares environmental data throughout the food supply chain. It also leverages AI to create digital twins of food supply chains and provides tools to encourage organisations to collaborate on net zero policies.

Rout spent around six years at Tesco, where she is currently sustainable food and innovation lead. She has also previously worked for farming co-operative Anglia Farmers.

In her new role, she will be tasked with bringing together food industry partners and driving collaboration across all stakeholders within the BRC Mondra Coalition.

The coalition brings together industry, government and NGOs to establish industry standards to improve the environmental performance of products.

Businesses participating with the Mondra platform include major supermarket chains Tesco, M&S, Sainsbury’s and Asda, as well as café and restaurant brands such as Starbucks and Nando’s.

Earlier this month, Tesco and the WWF denied that a report highlighting how intensive chicken production was ravaging the River Wye has been pulled as a result of their ongoing partnership.
